Ahead of Veterans Day, both @life and @TIME Magazine are looking for photos of veterans from America's wars. Pictured: Laura Young (@laura5y) of Forest, Va., shares this 1943 photo of her father, Navy veteran William "Bill" Greenshields, in North Africa. The Detroit native grew up during the Great Depression and joined the Navy after Pearl Harbor to see the world. "There was always a little twinkle in his eye when he talked about the far-off places he’d seen and the people he'd met," Young says. "Eventually I sailed to some of the very same places. It was all as he described. He told stories of sailors returning from the Mediterranean to New York Harbor and how Lady Liberty represented all they hoped to accomplish in the war. What they worked to share with the world inspires me every day." #VETSrising
