A Victorian era Taxidermy waterfowl from England

The works of Taxidermy from this time period have been preserved in large numbers with the help of several toxic Chemicals. Such as Arsenic, which was one of the stabilizing chemicals. This bird was photographed at the #bmag Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery, Birmingham, England. The museum is home to the amazing #Staffordshire #GoldHoard which I was lucky enough to shoot for a story published in @ナショナルジオグラフィック. On a return trip to England, this time working on an Taxidermy articles, I used the relationship that I had built with the good folks at the museum & I was able to shoot in the collections of the museum.

Taxidermy has had a huge increase in popularity in the last few years. I think, partly due to the fact that our lives are now almost full devoted to the screens in our hands. Hey, think about how you are seeing this now. It harkens back to a time when to learn something, like the size and shape of exotic animals you had to visit a Natural History Museum and see it for yourself. The original #Taxidermist where some of the earliest conservationist. To this day, hunters are the signal largest contributor to conservation efforts. An emotional and complicated issue for sure, but, I have had a great time trying to understand.
