These are the hands of modern slaves. A father and his two sons mix toxic dye at an Indian textile factory, submerging silk in dyes up to their elbows. Photographer Lisa Kristine documents the brutal realities of slavery around the world. Although her work draws attention to the atrocities, she also captures the dignity, humanness and beauty of her subjects. “These images are not intended to be spectacles of horror,” she explains. “They’re intended to engage people in connecting so we realize we’re all brothers and sisters.” To see more of Lisa’s work, watch her #TEDTalk here: on.ted.com/dyedhands
