The other day I posted an image of a wolf that had been shot caught in the act of predation. Showing a dead wolf always elicits a big response. To be fair to both sides of this incredibly complex issue, (despite my best efforts to give both sides validation in the caption), I wanted to also post an image of what predation looks like in reality. This calf was an unconfirmed predation, meaning there was not enough evidence to say what actually killed it. Both bear and wolf sign were found. Based on the lack of blood trail, it's possible that this calf simply died. All that aside, the realities of losing livestock to predation are evident at the end of the day. A single calf can represent over $1,000 dollar loss. If the calf is raised to maturity, it can represent much more than that. Wolves and bears and big cats and coyotes all play a role, both in stress of livestock and actual predation. It's a very blurry line to say when and where people can shoot naturally occurring predators...an issue that is recurring as we speak. @thephotosociety @3stringsproductions @Keith Ladzinski @andy_mann @natgeocreative @ナショナルジオグラフィック
