When I first auditioned for Elvis I did my own rendition of his song Don't Be Cruel. I did it in a folky fingerpicking film style and the MD was like "What are you doing? Play it like Elvis!" I stumbled through it messily, apologising. Something like 7 auditions & nearly 2 months later I got the part.
