Today, 73 immigrants from 39 countries, ranging from Afghanistan to Venezuela, celebrated America’s birthday by being sworn in as U.S. citizens. The naturalization ceremony at Monticello, the former home of Thomas Jefferson, in Charlottesville, Virginia, has been an Independence Day tradition for 52 years.
