If you didn't get a chance to check out my last post on @ナショナルジオグラフィック this is a scanning electron micrograph of Velcro shot for a story on Biomimetics (the inspiration of nature upon design). The previous post on this feed was the inspiration for this invention.

In 1948, George de Mestral was examining burs pulled from his pants and dog’s coat after a hike and found that the bur’s spines were tipped with tiny hooks. This inspired him to create something that has since then been used in ubiquity in the modern age: Velcro!
