The 100-liter combustion chamber shown in this images, is part of the Combustion Integrated Rack (CIR), located in the US Laboratory Module (Destiny). Used to perform combustion experiments, a fluid/oxidizer management assembly conditions the gases, and digital cameras and light sources monitor the results. These experiments will improve fire-fighting techniques in space and help attain a better understanding of fuel combustion here on Earth. Experiments are conducted in the chamber by remote control from the Telescience Support Center (TSC) or the Principal Investigator's (PI's) home institution. NASA PAO
