One more from the edge. This dizzying view from the Canadian top of Niagara Falls captured my imagination and began terrorizing it at a very young age. I still have a recurring nightmare about navigating a bridge over the drop (and navigating it badly). And it was only recently that I stopped getting flashes of its fury every time I'd close my eyes under the stream from a shower head. (Seriously.) Mercifully, these vivid conjurings are dual-edged: Sure, they scare the pants off me and give my friends and family reason to giggle at my expense. (As if they need another.) But each time my mind goes on one of these frightening joyrides, I'm reminded of its immense power--a power as immense, I'd say, as the falls that fuel it, and a power that we ALL share.
