Less visited but equally interesting are the stones of Avebury. Dated the same time as Stonehenge, these stones were arranged as 2 side by side circles with a massive circular ditch surrounding them, with more stones lining the bank surrounding the ditch. Another place where modern & ancient meet, the present town of Avebury lives in and around the stones. It's a grazing field so the sheep & goats leave many land mines to avoid, but you can touch these giant stones (you know, but not climb or deface). I'm betting the local teens party here when the night falls...
