Sunrays hit the back of the living room in Villa Mairea, sometime between 1939-1941. The villa was designed by Alvar and Aino Aalto 1938-1939 for Maire Gullichsen and her husband Harry in Noormarkku, Finland, a few years after they had founded Artek together. Friendship and a shared view on art and society led the Gullichsens to commission drawings from Alvar Aalto for the Villa Mairea. As it turned out, the Villa Mairea was completed as a unique total work of art, which attained world-wide recognition as one of the greatest masterpieces of 20th-century architecture. #artek #artekdesign #alvaraalto #ainoaalto #villamairea #architecture
