On the 22nd anniversary of the LA Riots, or SAIGU around here, we just wanted to show some respect. I was just a kid, but growing up in Ktown I still remember it like it was yesterday…my mom came to pick me up from school early looking pale as a ghost… and as she drove she had to use the wipers to clean the ash off her windshield that was falling on our car like dirty snow flakes from the buildings on fire all around us. As we rushed into the house my mom told me to pray for my dad, who was out with his friends guarding the businesses that they had worked so hard to build throughout the years.
Even now with all this stuff going on with the Clippers, it helps us appreciate diversity and how important it is. We’re so proud of how far our city has come since that time…at the last Spam N Eggs we looked down from the 2nd floor and tripped out about how multicultrual the crowd was for a party in Ktown. And that’s why we made the Ktown Riot Edit of “The Illest”…it doesn’t tell the whole story, and one piece really never can (thanks Bessie)…but it allows us to share a moment in time that’s influenced us and that will remain a part of us forever. Peace and respect to everyone on this special day…
