This is the story of Marshall Avila, one of 185 LA Marathon Legacy runners who have run all 28 LA Marathons since the first in 1986: “When my dad was fighting in WWII, he always thought about his own father, waiting for him to come home. So my dad told me, before my first LA Marathon in 1986, to picture him waiting for me at the finish line, to help get through the most grueling miles. And he was always there to congratulate me when I finished. My father passed in 2007, but still, every LA Marathon, when the gun goes off, I can already picture his big smile at the finish line. I know he’s there, waiting. I can feel him with me.”
