I'm often emailed by people who are interested in becoming photographers or film makers as a profession. They ask what classes they should take, where they should intern, and what gear they need. The truth though, that many people are afraid to hear, is that there is no set path. You have to wander the neighborhoods with friends, the city mentors, and the world alone to find your voice. Mix in some ramen, sleepless nights, sweat and tears, and you will be closer to success than you realize. Then one day you will find yourself in an epic place; atop a mountain, alone at a perfect beach, or in a beautiful studio with friends and a camera in your hand. You'll have to pinch yourself to know that it's real. Take chances, learn, then repeat. That is the advice I give.
