January 3rd, 1870 - The construction of the Brooklyn Bridge began. It was initially designed by John Roebling, yet he never saw it completed due to a tragic accident during its construction.
On May 24th, 1883, the bridge had its grand opening where 1,800 vehicles and over 150,300 people crossed over the Brooklyn Bridge for the very first time.
Johns vision and design is now recognized as one of the most iconic landmarks in NYC.
To this day THOUSANDS of people cross the Brooklyn Bridge everyday yet probably less than 1% of them know Johns story. But that doesn't make it less significant.
