This year, Taylor Swift released re-recorded versions of Speak Now and 1989—part of a years-long project to regain ownership of her work. She frames the strategy as a "coping mechanism."

“It’s all in how you deal with loss,” Swift says. “I respond to extreme pain with defiance.”

"Imagine Picasso painting something that he painted a few years ago, then recreating it with the colors of today," Lucian Grainge, the CEO of the parent company that owns Swift's record label, says.
