I often get asked, “How long does it take you to make one of our wedding dresses?”

When I answer, “Including all the work and fittings, it takes me about 2-3 days to make a dress and alter it to fit the bride perfectly”, some brides are surprised it doesn’t take 2 weeks.

Someone once asked me, "If it takes you only 2-3 days to finish a dress, then why does it cost so much?”

The price of a wedding dress, when bought from a small business (home dressmakers are different as their overhead costs are so small), doesn’t just cover the materials and the labour. It has to cover much, much more, and if you’re not a small business owner, you don’t necessarily realise this.

So, here’s why the price is what it is:

- It covers several hundred pounds of material costs.
- It contributes to my salary or pays a dressmaker’s salary.
- It contributes towards the (ever-rising) overhead costs we have to pay every month.
- It contributes to the marketing we do to help other brides find Indiebride so that we can keep our doors open in the future.
- It helps the business survive the quiet months when we don’t get enough orders
- It enables me to grow my business so that more brides can choose a sustainable dress.
