Asociada con el mito clásico de la diosa Cibeles, la "Gran Madre de los Dioses", la fuente presenta a la diosa en un carro tirado por dos leones. La diosa sostiene en sus manos un cetro y las llaves de la ciudad.

Did you know this? The Cibeles Fountain is an iconic monument in Madrid which was built in 1782 under the orders of King Charles III. Associated with the classical Cybele myth, the Roman ‘Great Mother of Gods’, the fountain features the goddess on a chariot drawn by two lions. The goddess holds a sceptre and the keys to the city in her hands.

The goddess also keeps a secret. Did you know that the security vaults of the Bank of Spain depend on the fountain? If the alarms in the Golden Chamber of the Bank of Spain went off due to an attempted robbery, all the rooms of the vaults, located 35m underground would be flooded with water from the fountain in a matter of seconds. 🪙🔒
