"Almost 100 years ago Ford vehicles weren’t just on the roads, they were also in the sky. In the late-1920s, the Ford Tri-Motor was standard. Nicknamed the ‘Tin Goose,’ nearly 200 Ford airplanes were built.
“Ford helped to awaken public interest in commercial airplanes and prove that aviation was much safer than expected by flying thousands of miles in the Ford Reliability Tours from 1926 to 1931. Along the way, the Tri-Motor established many firsts in aviation, including the first enclosed pilot’s cabin, wheel brakes, heaters, donut tires and full cantilever wings.”
