With Michel Foucault cited as one of his influences, Brown believes knowledge helps bring power back to the individual, a value he incorporates into his work as VP of the @TheNBPA, particularly while speaking to younger players. On the importance of a platform, he says, “A lot of my favorite athletes of all time, Muhammad Ali, Bill Russell, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, they were controversial at times and used their platforms to talk about things bigger than just the sports they played, yet now they almost teach the athletes to do the opposite, like a kind of media training.
