It is bittersweet to be recognized by @ccfpeace with a peace award amidst one of the most tumultuous periods in history. We have all been feeling the deep grief and heartbreak of the innocent Israeli and Palestinian lives that have been lost. In recent weeks, we have witnessed the distressing violence and unimaginable horrors unfolding in Israel and Gaza. It’s during times of fear that soft power is so often undermined.

To be recognized by the Community for Peace alongside purpose-driven creatives Liev Schreiber, Ben Silverman, Gustavo Lopez, and Aaron Rosenberg is truly an honor. I’m humbled and deeply grateful to be presented with this award by my friend, Holocaust survivor Yetta Kane.

The arts have the unique ability to transcend language and cultural barriers. While it cannot stop bloodshed, it can and must foster empathy, encourage dialogue, and bring people closer together. These are the values that promote long-term peace.

In our everyday lives, we all have the power to lead with empathy and promote the dignity of life for all. We can choose not to confuse the people with the organizations that govern them. We can choose not to confuse support for a group of innocent people as an expression of hate or oppression for another. Solutions are not based on violence.

I believe that we can all channel our passions and pain towards the protection and support of the vulnerable and innocent. That has been my lifelong dedication to human rights globally and I will continue to do my part.

We can all be part of the solution and come together in peace.

It is possible.
