Joe Ray’s latest solo exhibition, ‘Fifteen Columns,’ is on view at @DianeRosenstein Gallery in Los Angeles through October 28. From the concepts of Minimalism and California Light and Space movements, the artist carries the viewer (and what-not) to his own reimagination of the universe. The whatnot in particular is a motif taken from the life of the artist’s mother. On materials and what-nots, Joe Ray says, “I grew up in a house where my mother had whatnots…little things that she would collect when she would travel, things that were close to her. In the process of fabricating my sculptures, I would end up with a lot of residue. And I asked myself, ‘What am I going to do with this?’ and it became what-not.” Read the full feature on flaunt.com!
