"In August, I had the honour of speaking about Fine-Art portraiture and conducting a lighting workshop for the West Australian Photographic Federation during PhotoWest 2023 in Perth, proudly sponsored by @nikonaustralia. I always enjoy introducing new concepts when discussing lighting and posing, so once again, I arrived with a suitcase filled with props. Throughout the session, I demonstrated various looks by progressively building up my lighting setup, transitioning from soft to slightly harsher lighting, and finishing with a bare bulb. To add depth and beautiful bokeh to my studio portraits, I experimented with Nanlite continuous lights and Gobos, showcasing the power of the NIKKOR Z 85mm f/1.2 S. These techniques allowed me to capture wide-aperture shots, resulting in stunning and colourful effects. I also had the privilege of running a lighting workshop during the NZIPP Iris Awards and NZ Photography Show, where I was fortunate to work with Libby, a beautiful ballerina model. This presented the perfect opportunity to design a modern Black Swan-inspired outfit. While our focus extended beyond dance poses, incorporating movement into the shots added a dynamic element reminiscent of some of my recent work. I used the NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S on the stunning Z 8, which has quickly become my new favourite."
