A brief #Ferrari history of the year 1957, as highlighted in the ‘Ferrari’ film:

The year 1957 was a very difficult one for Enzo Ferrari. January began with the disappointment of the Argentine Formula 1 Grand Prix, where the best-placed Ferrari was only fifth. After a victory in Buenos Aires a week later which set the stage for the conquest of another World Sportscar Championship, tragedy was just around the corner. On March 14th, Ferrari driver Eugenio Castellotti died in Modena, during a test. Eugenio had won the Mille Miglia in 1956 and the Mille Miglia of 1957 was the first race to take place after this tragedy. Piero Taruffi, who had already raced in the Italian endurance race 13 times without winning, was now 51 years old, and had promised his wife Isabella he would retire from competition if he won. Enzo Ferrari was aware of and moved by this promise and gave him a 315 S to help him achieve this. On the afternoon of Sunday May 12th, Taruffi in second place took the win after his teammate in front of him was forced to retire. However, the 1957 edition of the Mille Miglia was also to be the last, when Alfonso De Portago’s Ferrari 335 S suffered a burst tire that sent it flying off the road, killing the driver and navigator Edmund Nelson, as well as nine spectators. The event was banned; the end of an era.
