Those in power have always felt threatened by storytellers, but today the stakes are dire, as book bans and attacks on public libraries increase across the United States.

In a special package, BAZAAR is looking at the authors, artists, and books that have been affected. At the link in bio, find titles that were banned or challenged during the first half of 2022 school year, as tracked extensively by @penamerica, a nonprofit dedicated to “uniting writers and their allies to celebrate creative expression and defend the liberties that make it possible.” Some of these titles have since been reinstated; others have disappeared from shelves altogether.
