Today in 2004, “Brian Wilson Presents Smile” was released. Brian’s fifth solo album featured all-new recordings of music he originally created for The Beach Boys he abandoned in 1967. The album was acclaimed by fans and critics alike. NME compared it favorably to Miles Davis’ Kind of Blue, as well as George Gershwin and Aaron Copland. The album received three Grammy nominations and won for “Best Rock Instrumental Performance for “Mrs. O’Leary’s Cow.”
