I try to; to offer advice or in an attempt to normalize nursing in public. But honestly, I found that my posts triggered a lot of moms who were unable to breastfeed. And I understand it. Because I was one of those moms. I couldn’t nurse my first baby. Due to the horrific stress and almost criminal lack of support that I faced after giving birth to Damie, my body simply could not produce enough to sustain him. I had to give up at barely three months. And for years I couldn’t even talk about it. Seeing another mother nursing her baby would devastate me, because all I saw was my own loss. But I thank the Lord that I was given another chance. After giving birth to Nikyta, I protected my peace at all costs. I wasn’t going to let anyone hurt us or our bond, like the first time. Breastfeeding is sacred, and magical, and I am grateful for every day that my body continues to nourish my baby. And I am so incredibly grateful that even though I couldn’t nurse my first child, I was able to give him formula that strengthened him in ways that I simply couldn’t. If you’re reading this, please understand how vitally important it is to support new mothers in whichever path they choose.
