I am sooooo dissatisfied with this piece of crap…… is what i am not feeling!!! My advice to anyone thinking about making an album is work with someone you admire , you respect, and you truly truly trust … thank you Cate… I feel like I’m constantly working but next to Cate I truly felt like the laziest person of all time … I would deep down know a word or bridge or verse was weak but I wanted to get away with it .... Hoping ooohhh maybe she won’t notice and I can go back to looking up that NYT’s 50 best restaurants article or order another sleeping bag even though I’ve never gone camping …. but Cate wouldn’t let me , I couldn’t get away with it , get back to work , and of course , it made it so I’m actually happy with the record… Pain is a stepping stone , healing a walk of fire…. Just no way around that , not the full gig but a pretty big part of it , at least that’s my experience … lotsa that in this album…. Write something down and then sing it out loud , let your consciousness sit in a space somewhere between math and magic …. Be subtly irrational and as Christian Stavros would say every time he dropped by a session “be a mess in your best dress” … I love that so much….. I’ve been a mess my whole life & that feeling doesn’t seem to be going anywhere any time soon , so might as well glam it up in my favorite skirt …. Of course , I’m talking about giving ourselves a break , not indulging in whatever we want , but just accepting the full range of all our messy emotions and thoughts, sit with it long enough and something like a bit of breathing room begins to arise… Thank you for listening this album , truly , May all your Wigs ooze with grace….
