Protecting our waterways for current and future generations.

Endurance swimmer and UNEP Patron of the Oceans @Lewis.Pugh has completed an extraordinary feat: swimming 315 miles of the Hudson River, from its source in the Adirondack Mountains to its end in New York City.

The Hudson River was once one of the most polluted waterways in the US. But thanks to conservation and clean-up efforts over the past decades, eagles, bears, snapping turtles, and other wildlife are gradually returning to this waterway.

Rivers are the arteries of our planet. Lewis’ swim draws attention to the Global Biodiversity Framework’s goal of protecting and restoring at least 30% of inland waters by 2030, and the critical need to sustain freshwater ecosystems.

If we are to improve the lives of children around the world, we must invest in action across the triple crisis of climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution, and ensure children’s right to clean air, water, and a healthy environment.
