I think there is conversation to be had around normalizing these feelings and not creating more shame for women/couples going through infertility. I’ve had people say “oh I would just be happy for my friends, that’s just me” OF COURSE I am happy for my friends (duh) but these reminders and events can be triggering because they are reminding me of this crazy fear that infertility specifically chose me and we would never reach that next phase of a building a family. At times I needed to isolate and tried not to think of what was happening at the time. Being reminded can really affect your emotions. Also for me it took awhile to be triggered. It took 4 failed retrievals and a miscarriage, for others they experience infertility and loss for years…it’s not something that happens overnight. It’s ok to find boundaries to keep sane through these difficult times. My advice is until you experience it yourself it’s hard to explain how scared so many women and couples are about their current situation, it’s not that they aren’t happy for you.
