The fires took Maui by surprise, fueled by a dry summer and strong winds from the passing Hurricane Dora. As of August 13, authorities have confirmed that the death toll has risen to 96, with nearly 1,000 still reported missing, making it the deadliest wildfire in the U.S. in the past century.“ I’ve put together some reliable sources to donate&support ○ The Maui Strong Fund was created to provide community resilience with resources for disaster preparedness, response, and recovery. The fund is currently being used to support communities affected by the wildfires on Maui and is collaborating with Maui County Mayor Bissen, state leaders, and nonprofit organizations to assess the evolving situation and the priorities needed to support Maui residents at this time. ○ Maui Food Bank’s mission is to help the hungry in Maui County by collecting and distributing food through community partnerships. It is currently providing disaster relief. ● Maui Fire Relief Fund: Maui United Way ○ Maui United Way is a nonprofit charitable organization focused on supporting vital non-profit organizations and programs that directly impact the community’s quality of life. ○ The Lāhui Foundation is a non-profit organization in Ko'olauloa Hawai'i that strives to become a dependable resource for underrepresented and underserved communities in Hawai'i.
