Known as “The granary of Kerala,” it is located at the center of the state and serves as the gateway to Kerala through the Palakkad Gap in the Western Ghats. The district shares borders with Malappuram and Thrissur districts in Kerala, Nilgiris district, and Coimbatore district in Tamil Nadu. The city of Palakkad is the district headquarters, and the highest point is the 2,383 m high Anginda peak in the Silent Valley National Park.
