John Allan Chapman (July 14, 1965 - March 4, 2002) was a combat controller in the United States Air Force who was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor on August 22, 2018, for his actions in the Battle of Takur Ghar during the War in Afghanistan. 1 He is the first airman to receive the Medal of Honor since the Vietnam War.2] He was inducted into the Hall of Heroes on August 23, 2018, and posthumously promoted to Master Sergeant on the following day.. I had recently been introduced to the world of @combatcontrol.team having done an immersion with them at Lackland Airbase. One of my road brothers @marknevatt had brought me into this organization. Having met, watched and learned about their training and expertise I was excited to read the book about “Chappy” written by @danobooks ALONE AT DAWN. After reading the book I told @babspatrick I would be close to his resting place and I felt compelled to visit him. It was a most beautiful ride there and profoundly moving to think of his heroic actions in a far away land for his country, family and team brothers. R.I.P. John A.
