We visited a have dozen countries that were the principal players in the War. While in Japan I visited & photographed Tomu Kamata, a survivor of the #TokyoAirRaids of March,1945. Tomu recently passed away at 107 shortly after I met her and made this picture. Approximately 100,000 people were killed in the Tokyo air raid on March 9 & 10th, 1945. $1 Sq Kilometers were destroyed in the two day bombing campaign. She was 7 months pregnant with a baby girl and at first escaped the air raids, but during the aftermath she lost her mother & husband. She lost an eye and was injured in the attack. After the war, she worked at an orphanage as the orphans' mother until she was 70 years old. In a few weeks the 78th anniversary (August 6th), of the dropping of the first atomic weapon used on Hiroshima will pass. The choice to use the atomic weapon was, in part, a response to the Tokyo air raids, taking 100,000 lives, It became evident that the Japanese had no thoughts of surrendering. Their has been a renewed interest in the atomic bomb and it’s development because of the new epic @ChristopherNolan film #Oppenheimer which is coming soon.」7月18日 4時24分 - robertclarkphoto
