The Food and Drug Administration has approved the first-ever over-the-counter birth control pill in the United States. On Thursday, the agency announced that manufacturer HRA Pharma was granted approval of the birth control pill, called Opill, which will allow consumers to purchase the oral contraceptive without a prescription at drug stores, convenience stores, grocery stores, and online.

The decision will reduce barriers to access that individuals may face when trying to obtain an oral contraceptive, since they'll no longer need to first see a healthcare provider. Read the full story at the link in our bio.
