Repost from @garrisonh
Here’s a question for those who have been tirelessly working to end affirmative action: What have you won?

The Supreme Court has rejected the use of race in college admissions at Harvard University and the University of North Carolina, dealing a potentially lethal blow to affirmative action programs in colleges throughout the country.

The decision, which civil rights groups say effectively bans affirmative action, a policy widely viewed as an “irreplaceable tool” to improve higher education, will have enormous consequences all but certain to reverse progress in the United States. Look no further than the dissenting opinions of Justices Sonia Sotomayor and Ketanji Brown Jackson, who blasted the majority’s decision for showcasing a “let-them-eat-cake obliviousness” that would ultimately deliver a “tragedy for us all.”

This marks a significant setback for the creation of diverse student bodies across the country.

The question I, @garrisonh pose to those who have been tirelessly working to end affirmative action is: What have you won?

In this video, I argue that affirmative action was merely a recognition of the inherent unfairness in our educational system, particularly for students of color. Despite affirmative action, our most selective institutions remain predominantly white. With race-based affirmative action already prohibited in nine states, we’ve already seen a sharp decline in enrollment from historically underrepresented groups, and it seems likely that this Supreme Court decision will extend this trend nationwide.
