@offtrackroza —Socotra Archipelago is located in the northwest Indian Ocean, close to the Gulf of Aden. It stretches for about 250 kilometers and consists of four islands and two small rocky islets that look like an extension of the Horn of Africa. This place is incredibly important because it has a wide variety of plant and animal life that is unique and not found anywhere else in the world. In fact, 37% of Socotra’s 825 plant species, 90% of its reptile species, and 95% of its land snail species are exclusive to this region. The archipelago is also home to a significant number of land and sea birds, with 192 different bird species. Out of these, 44 species breed on the islands themselves, while 85 species regularly migrate there. Some of these bird species are considered to be at risk. Moreover, Socotra’s marine life is highly diverse, including 253 species of reef-building corals, 730 species of coastal fish, and 300 species of crabs, lobsters, and shrimp.
