In the film by Mirko Borscht, a 16-year-old from Frankfurt in West Germany must move to Frankfurt (Oder) in East Germany, where he meets Thomas, a neo-Nazi of the same age, and becomes part of the right-wing extremist scene. Ludwig Trepte expertly plays Thomas. Born in 1988 in East Berlin, the former GDR, he is the son of a popular rock musician who made his cinema debut with this impressive role. Ever since then, Trepte, through his films, has acted his way through the last 80 years of German history. In Generation War, he fought as a soldier. In Tannbach, set in the post-WW2 years, he was a farmer, a smuggler, and an escape agent in East Germany, while in Unsere wunderbaren Jahre, he went from being a building contractor to a social democratic politician during the same time period in the West. Marrying the importance of history and cinema, Trepte is the facilitator, immersing audiences in stories full of elusive and complex characters by submerging their consciousness in the materials of their souls. In his telephone interview with ZOO, one week before his birthday, he explains his focus on historical material, the different perspectives on the fall of the Berlin Wall within his family – and, as it turns out that political circumstances also move him beyond acting.
