In Venezuela’s working-class barrios, many of which are mountain warrens of crisscrossed narrow streets and near vertical hills, babies straddle motos before they learn to walk, and youth learn to navigate the treacherous terrain at high speed with a nonchalant grace. Los Motopiruetas are the Venezuelan Stunt riders who have turned riding into an art form and an elite sport. Amid a resurgent party scene with its own style and musical tendencies, Motopiruetas compete and perform outdoing each other on impossible terrains with gravity-defying feats of balance to screaming crowds and packs of adoring kids.
