Breaking into acting – Thea takes us through a journey emphasizing the importance of fluidity and adaptation. Exploring the differences between theatre and cinema, performing and acting, and additionally her identity as a proud transwoman and the role it plays in the roles she gets to embody. Making her way as a so-called newcomer in the German-speaking acting realm, Thea has recently been awarded the Silver Bear for Best Supporting Performance in the film Bis ans Ende der Nacht (Till the End of the Night) at the Berlinale 2023. She also starred as a performer and co-creator in the piece FUGUE FOUR: RESPONSE by Olivia Axel Scheucher and Nick Romeo Reimann. The intricate theatrical exploration of the capitalist shackles placed on bodily and sexual expression was on view at the Volkstheater in Vienna until May. Speaking with ZOO, Thea Ehre conveys her nuanced take on what it means to be a transwoman in the acting industry during a time considered transitory regarding gender and sexuality norms.
