In 2023 so far we have had 13,959 Americans die at the front of a gun. Of those who died, 491 were teens and 85 were children with an average of about 66 deaths by suicide per day. And we aren't even halfway through the year. We can argue back and forth the rhetoric we've heard for decades but something has to change. Other first world countries DO NOT have this problem. Mental health and evil are a world problem! But guns are a USA problem. I know many of you will say that I'm "just an actor" and should keep my politics out of your entertainment but here on my page I want to be clear that FIRST AND FOREMOST I am a mother to 3 boys, sister to 7 siblings and an aunt to 13 and I am sick of holding my breath wondering when it will be one of us. But I want to be clear. Im not saying the goal is to get rid of guns completely. I want to find solutions to make our schools and places of worship, malls and Waffle Houses safer. Laws to buy back and stop manufacturing high magazine capacity weapons and ammo for civilians, waiting periods, universal background checks, and gun safety storage laws. Small steps can save thousands of lives. Waiting periods allow people with intention of hurting themselves or others time to think or find help or be caught before going through with it. Background checks and registry help keep weapons out of the hands of criminals, people found to be mentally (by due process) unfit or violent domestic abusers. And assault weapons are just evil killing machines meant to make people feel a false sense of power. These have no place in personal protection or hunting. And with proper storage laws, families would be safer with guns in the house (think about when seatbelts became the law in cars) and parents would be liable for what a child does if they find a gun and shoot their cousin, teacher or use it for suicide. Which would hopefully make people think harder about how to store a weapon in the home since homicides at home were three times more common among people living with handgun and 84% are women. #enoughisenough」5月9日 2時07分 - melissajoanhart
