"The sound design for the original Star Wars was done by Ben Burtt. He used an Arp 2600 modular synthesizer to create the voice of R2-D2, blending his own voice with a ring-modulated patch created on the Arp.

"Ben Burtt used the Arp 2600 as he meticulously created the sonic world Star Wars. He also used found sound, electric distortion, the sounds of bears and elephants, the sound of jet engines and twanging cables."
