Under US copyright law, music creators and other copyright owners have the right to be compensated when their music is performed publicly.

A PRO collects licensing fees from businesses that use music – radio stations, TV networks, streaming services, concert venues, bars, restaurants, etc. – and turns that money into royalties for the music creators and publishers they represent.

FUN FACT: #ASCAP is the only not-for-profit PRO in America, and the only one founded and governed by songwriters, composers and music publishers.
