After purchasing our first house in 2017, I wanted to start learning how to grow my own food. It was something I was interested in, but felt like I could never do - mostly because I thought I didn’t have the space and wasn't educated enough on the plants I wanted to grow.  After seasons of trial and error, I started to dive into different online avenues for gardening inspiration. That’s when I noticed the lack of representation for Black women tending to their gardens. It inspired me to start Black Girls Gardening in 2019 as an online community to share the joy of other Black women doing what they love and hopefully inspire more women to grow their own food! My goal with this collective is to provide answers, tips, inspiration and representation to women of color interested in gardening.  Creating a space where women could connect and be motivated by one another was super important to me.
