As more people are drawn into gaming and virtual worlds, the communities they forge are spawning real-world social movements, explains futurist Noah Raford. While that could create potential problems — it also could bring about new possibilities, but we have to harness those forces for good, now.

“At their best, [video games] speak to some of our primal social and psychological needs,” he explains. “From feeling effective to achieving our goals, to belonging to a group, to working for something bigger than yourself.”
