He hired me at 25 to shoot skate photos for DC with little experience, then asked me to come shoot #Gymkhana when I hardly knew a thing about cars. His ability to help others get better was unlike anyone I've met. Here are some of his favorite Gymkhana photos, plus some moments of KB I luckily captured during our 20+ year friendship. The very first Gymkhana photo of Ken that I shot. In 2011, he asked me to shoot #Gymkhana4. I never shot cars before, and he said "Perfect - just come check it out.". He somehow knew I'd capture his incredible projects in a unique way. Ken while filming for #gymkhana10 inside the gas station from the movie Cars, 2018. It was always fun shooting these projects because of the iconic locations, the cars, and Ken's driving skills. This donut around @randysdonuts was first try. I was often in disbelief with his precision in a crazy car that he'd barely driven. DC office, Vista, 2001. I'd often go to KB's office to talk about a skate session, show him some photos, or just to talk shit. On this day, I happened to shoot a roll of film while catching up. Mega Ramp jump in 2003 while filming @dannyway for the #DCvideo. Ken came to check it out, and decided to jump the gap on his motorcycle. @colinmckay recently pointed out it's funny Ken was quietly crazier than all of us. #RussianHill jump in #SF during #Gymkhana5. Ken had an amazing sense of humor. He knew I was afraid of heights - and laughed when I had to go 185' up to shoot this photo. The crane was swaying in the wind - so Ken called to see if I'd let go to answer the phone. Ken with his daughters after we wrapped #Gymkhana5 in #SF. One of the last photos Ken and I shot together. My favorite image from #Electrikhana in #LasVegas, 2022. KB walking to his car in the train station before launching out. #Gymkhana8. Portrait at his home, 2008. I loved shooting with Ken. He always laughed at me if I'd get excited by the way a photo would look. This is one of those moments.
