So in 2017 Elle Magazine reached out to my team to be a part of a dance showcase of different artists from around the world.. we worked hard on every detail form costume that my beloved @_phallus_cooper handmade and an amazing crew behind the scenes.. I didn’t like the selection of music given to me bc I never create art with elements that are not chosen by me, negotiating the rights for the music of my choice failed although the musicians were my friends and they agreed to give the piece for free.. so I asked to edit it my self and share it, the team behind the project refused to give me footage of my self choreographed by me.. the whole point of sharing this story with you is to stress how social media is very important in empowering the content creator and their platforms in connecting directly with the world.. the gate keeper bullshit that was held by publicists, agents, press outlets have abused of their power, and artists have a golden opportunity to reclaim that power, please follow and empower your artists, don’t wait for a big press outlet to define your taste for you, they are just big corporate structures that execute a specific agenda that has nothing to do with empowering artists.. thank god for this messy footage made with an iPhone from the monitor..
