I made the bulk of this album in my college dorm room during the worst semester of my life, and then finished it up after the semester (and my time at college) ended. The song “Better” was started and finished during a school lockdown, and “Cherry Pepsi” was started and finished the day before the album came out. I remember premiering the album to a couple dozen people on Tinychat. I’d never felt more proud of anything I’d done, but even then I had no idea how those songs would change the course of my life. Things haven’t always been easy since, and there have been a few roadblocks along the way, but whenever this time of year comes around I’m rushed back to a state of mind where I really believe the power of music and love is second to none. I can’t thank you enough for letting my music into your life, whether it’s a remix or an original song, whether it’s a made out of a hundred samples or none. Skylar Spence is gearing to return better than ever; I have never put out music that I didn’t fully believe in, and I never will! I’m also getting ready to play my first shows since the pandemic started, which is equal parts thrilling and terrifying.
