I didn’t have any connections in the movie business— I didn’t have an uncle who worked at one of the studios or a cousin who punched up scripts— I didn’t even KNOW anyone who lived in Los Angeles. But that all changed in 1998, when I met Ivan Reitman at the Sundance Film Festival. Ivan had directed some of my favorite comedies as a kid including Meatballs, Stripes and Ghostbusters. He was at Sundance to support his young son Jason who had a short film at the festival that year. Jason was gracious enough to introduce me to Ivan and from then on I had someone in my corner. I had my “uncle” and he was an absolute BEAR. Ivan produced my first two studio films (Road Trip and Old School) but that title, producer, doesn’t even do him justice. If it were boxing, he would have been my corner man. He had my back and he taught me SO much. He was always so generous with his expertise and experience and he was also so fucking harsh, in the BEST way. We stayed in touch over the years, I would visit him at his home in Montecito, I got to know his family, he came to all my premieres. He was the toughest critic and yet, there was no greater sound than hearing him laugh. I can close my eyes and literally hear it now. That’s how I’ll remember him. If you’re unfamiliar with his films, look them up. He was an absolute legend. Rest In Peace boss. xTP」2月14日 14時09分 - toddphillips
