But I was very conflicted by this day in Cairo. The exploitation and abuse of animals throughout the city and especially at the Giza Pyramids was the worst I have ever seen. On unbearably hot days these horses, donkeys and camels are forced to carry tourists up and down the hills at the pyramids, no shade, no accessible water, in pain, suffering. All day, everyday, no breaks. It was heartbreaking. Not to mention the dogs, everywhere, hit by cars on the side of the roads, eating out of the many piles of trash all over the city, infested with bugs. Please, if you visit a place, do NOT ride animals. Anywhere, ever. The less demand, the less supply. Bring water for the strays and food if you can.
